Hi,
I can't handle it. Has anyone an explaination for this kind of phenomenon? I know reflection bows where the sunrays got mirrored by the surface of the water. But this reflection bow appears on the water.

Regards,
Andreas

I think it is not rain that produces the bows, but some spherical parts of algae protruding above the water surface. So there can be a direct bow opposite the sun with raypaths sun-sphere-camera, centered (like usual) around the subanthelion, as well as a reflected one with raypaths sun-water_surface-sphere-camera, which is centered around the anthelion.

hi,

Based on description by Marko, "Chrysomyxa ledi" is a root cause of phenomena.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysomyx ... hododendri

In certain areas at autumn time, there is a lot of these spores in the air. Lot of that is landed finally to lake surfaces. Moisture starts to condensate on these multiple spores at lake surface. I have understood this formed droplet does not touch the lake surface. And the reflected sunrays are then hitting the water droplet from below. I did not see any indication in Marko's text, that algae would make this phenomenon...

there is also other observation of the dewbow/reflection dewbow, from year 2012. See images by Arto Koski:

For each Taivaanvahti observation / phenomena, there is a small green info buttons visible. By clicking the icon, there is more advanced description avauilable (in finnish) - and sample images.

Hi all,

I remember that something is said about reflected dewbows in the books of Minnaert and Greenler. They might also be caused by an oily water surface.

Regards,
Alex
