Sonnenaktivität - Es geht weiter - Last STD Update: 08 Octob

Last Update: 08 October 2002, 20:30 UTC (4:30 pm EDT 08 October):

Solar observers are encouraged to watch the northeastern solar limb for
signs of activity over the next 24 to 72 hours. A weak x-ray flare at 16:57
UTC on 07 October occurred from a source several days behind the northeast
limb of the Sun. The actual size of this x-ray event may have been a fair
amount larger (perhaps an M-class x-ray event), but limb occultation
obscured some of the x-rays, effectively limiting the strength of the x-ray
event as observed from the Earth. Post-flare loops and a coronal mass
ejection were associated with this event off the northeast limb. Fairly
frequent surging is currently being observed. Additional flare activity
(including possible M-class x-ray events) are possible as this area rotates
into view over the coming days.

A middle latitude auroral activity WATCH is active. The Earth is currently
passing through a coronal hole based disturbance in the solar wind.

Available LASCO data do not indicate the presence of an obvious CME from the
major flare of 05 October. However, data during the flare event does suggest a
slow moving CME may have been involved. There is, therefore, still a chance
the Earth may see some effects of this activity over the next 24 hours which
could (if observed) slightly reintensify activity. If nothing is observed, a
general quieting trend will likely persist.
