just painting a bridge ...

Hi all !

Small message on progress.
After scanning one 36 roll with 25 good images of 22 October 2001 near 02 local (00 UT) (one image was moisture control with light) with the Kodak RFS 3600 I think that I can say that the scanner works great mechanical and optical.
I wish though that it had scratch controll: all the small scratches on this not to good archived test roll took me about four hours to remove.
Per negative that is about 10 minutes including breaks. I turned off TV and music even to stay alert. The thing is that for these smaller moving images I don't need maximum quality settings. For a photographic HiQ print I wouldn't mind the retouching...

About the bridge: After I got the scanner on loan from Kodak, I saw a painter starting to paint all the metal spokes of an oldfashioned Amsterdam bridge. I think of him while working on material from 22 October 2001.

That's one important reason why I decided to buy the only slightly more expensive Nikon IV ED. Scanning, working on the pictures, putting them on the webpage etc. takes very much time anyway, so I am glad if the scanner makes it at least easier.

> Hi Katja,

I think you made a good choice, the Nikon IV seems to be perfect and scratch and dust removal indeed is very important for fast work.
I suppose for critical work you can turn that function off on the Nikon IV.
I just scanned my zodiacal light with comet ikeya Zang negatives on the kodak RFS 3600 at 48 bits (3 x 16 RGB) at 3600 dpi. 102 MB Files; it made my 128 MB Ram work ... but the result is phantastic. I cleaned the negatives carefully before scanning and only spend half an hour retouching on these two large files.

Having a pro negative scanner and high latitude skies will probably mean that you will have a hot winter !

Greetings, Jan
