WIR haben einen Aurora Watch ausgelöst

Beitrag von Ulrich Rieth » 12. Sep 2002, 08:36

Hallo Forum!

Endlich habe wir mal wieder was bewegt.

Ulrich

SYNOPSIS...

This watch has been prompted by sightings of mild auroral activity over
northern Europe. Although solar wind conditions are not particularly
favorable for producing substorm activity at this time, the influence of a
coronal hole based solar wind stream has resulted in an equatorward shift of
the auroral oval which may promote observations of auroral activity from some
dark-sky middle latitude locations. No significant widespread auroral
storming is anticipated. However, there is a chance some localized substorm
events may be moderately strong. To observe this activity, it will be
important to get under dark skies with as little light pollution as possible.
Photographs of the activity (even if your eye's can't detect anything) may
provide surprising results.

This watch will remain valid through 19:00 UTC (3 pm EDT) on 12 Sept.
It will then be updated or allowed to expire. For updated information, visit:

PLEASE REPORT OBSERVATIONS OF AURORAL ACTIVITY TO:

http://solar.spacew.com/submitsighting.html

Observations reported here are permanently recorded for future study and
are immediately made available in real-time to a large network of observers
world-wide via the Internet, e-mail and pager. If you observe activity, your
assistance to contribute to this database would be appreciated.

A FREE trial of the space weather "SWIM" software package is now
available at: http://www.spacew.com/swim. Use it to monitor current
conditions. It may also be used to monitor any image resource you find on the
Internet (including almost any type of 'cam' or "pictures of the day" you
can find).

Jetzt natürlich auch offiziell melden...

Beitrag von Ulrich Rieth » 12. Sep 2002, 08:39

Ulrich
