Subject: GOES SXI Imager to be functional in April 2003

I thought it may interest the group here to know that the new GOES-12 spacecraft will be revived from its storage state in January
2003. Sometime (hopefully shortly) thereafter, we will begin receiving intermittent full-disk soft-xray images of the Sun in near-realtime,
when there aren't restrictions associated with spacecraft maneuvers and other types of events that will prevent data from being
collected or transmitted. Official operations in a dedicated real-time mode (with few interruptions) is expected to commence in April
2003.

This will be a significant aid for space weather forecast operations - and yet another cool tool for the interested public.
