Last Update: 19 March 2003, 13:40 UTC (8:40 am EST 19 March):
Aurora / Geomagnetic Activity Update:
Auroral activity has been mostly unsettled over the last 12 to 24 hours.
Effects of the high velocity solar wind stream are showing signs of abating
a bit. However, activity is expected to remain at unsettled to minor storm
levels over the next 48 hours. Effects of the coronal mass ejection
associated with the X-class solar flare of 18 March are expected to enhance
geomagnetic and auroral activity on 20 March. Periods of minor storm
activity will be possible along with potential mid-latitude sightings of
auroral activity.
Solar Update:
Active Region 314 continues to be a prolific energetic flare producer. An
additional major M or X-class solar flare is probable before this region
rotates behind the western solar limb. There is a chance of an energetic
proton flare during this period as well.
