Hi,
I thought that maybe you would like to know my version of the last evening. So here it comes....
My place is in southern Finland at about 61/62 North.
Around 18 UT, as soon as sky became dark, there was quite "bright" and discrete auroral band at the zenith. Within 15 min from the start of my observation it moved to the southern part of the sky. So, that at some point it was just maybe 50-60 degrees from the southern horizon. Time to time also some extremely faint rays were visible there and there, particularly at the north, west and east. Quite soon about 10-20 degree high auroral arc emerged from the north and little after that the band the zenith faded away and never came back.
From this point on the arc and later a double arc remained on in sky at the north, but neither of those never got higher than maybe 25-30 degrees and there was no action at all....for some time.
Action started somewhere around 21UT and the display was very bright and quite active, YET....very very low in the horizon. All of the bright and active stuff was at max just 15-20 degrees from the northern horizon. From my viewing point the display had lot's of active belts and other bright and moving "patches" (or what ever....you know...spots of light that change shape all the time and sometimes very rapidly
), but there wasn't any rays that would have climbed high in my sky...
Anyway, the display was kind of pretty to watch and very very bright time to time. Also some red and damn clear yellows in some of the belts.
I quit watching somewhere around 23UT and to me there was only one active period in the evening...
Sooo...at least here it was so low in the horizon that if Germany would be directly south from Finland, you would not have seen a thing...
