Last Update: 17 June 2003, 07:15 UTC (3:15 am EDT 17 June):

Aurora / Geomagnetic Activity Update:
Recent imagery from the SOHO spacecraft confirm the existence of a full halo high velocity coronal mass ejection containing a probable minor Earthward-directed component. This CME was produced on 15 June in association with a strong X-class solar flare. Impact of the disturbance may occur on 18 June with a coronal hole based disturbance also expected either on 18 or 19 June. This activity may result in periods of moderately strong geomagnetic and auroral activity enhancements on 18 through 20 June.

Solar Update:
Newly numbered active Region 386 (the probable return of old Region 365) may be capable of producing an additional major M or X class solar flare during the next several days. The group is still too near to the limb to discern any significant detail. However, it appears that a delta configuration may exist in this region.
