Hi you all
I've used this week of rain and fog to learn Adobe Premiere by editing a sequence of the faint aurora of 24 December 2000, 01 UT - 03 UT.
What seemend just a faint red glow now is a nive substorm seen from the side with even green and yellow in it.
I'll post it on the web in a few days. The old movie can still be seen for a few days at http://www.angelfire.com/movies/timelap ... ails1.html
My question: I'd like to also give some geomagnetic data of that night on my site; does anyone have recorded data of that night?
Like Kp, Bz, time of shockwave arrival and CME or Coronal hole that lead to the disturbance.
And local magnetometer readings? I've already found the archive of Norwegian magnetometers.
I don't know if Scheggeroth archive is functioning correct.
And does anyone know a good method to calculate the azimut and distances of places like Aberdeen, Iceland, Bergen Norway and Stockholm from my location at 53.3 North 5.3 East? I'd like to include those directions in a map that shows the constellations etcetera in the movie.
The field of view is aproximately 100 degrees with north centerred.
(I started with 150 x 100 degrees but scanning and converting to TV size makes the image smaller and smaller).
Also: what compression and format is needed for the Appapava DVD?
Greetings from a rainy and foggy Terschelling

I can´t help you with the data and the compression format...
but your project sounds very intersting. I think it will convey a very good steric (räumlich) impression of an aurora night. Let us know if the movie is ready.

Distance and Azymuth
Hallo Jan,
there is a Site in the Internet which compute the distance and the Azymuth between two points. Please, be so kind and follow this Hyperlink:http://www.fcc.gov/mmb/asd/bickel/distance.html
You have to know the latitude and longitude in decimal notation.
At http://www.heavens-above.com you will find a huge Database which may show you the coordinates you are looking for.
Best regards
Thorsten
