Comment added at 07:00 UTC on January 9:
The extremely rapid development in region 9773 continues and the region has at least two magnetic delta structures. Major flares, including X class flares, are now possible. The background x-ray flux has increased to the class C3 level. New flux is emerging in region 9775 as well, and this region could soon begin flaring. Region 9778 is another region to watch as rapid development is occurring and a magnetic delta structure appears to be forming

Auch BBSO gibt jetzt 'ne Warnung raus...
...aber gerade noch so vor dem M9-Flare
BBSO Solar Activity Warning 09-JAN-2002 17:42:25 UT
NOAA 9773, N13W03 (Solar X = 049", Solar Y = 286" at 01/09/17:00 UT) Rapid flux emergence noted yesterday has continued overnight resulting in a complex magnetic delta configuration with a strong gradient and bright H-alpha plage across the delta's magnetic inversion line. We expect C- and M-class events with the possibility of an X-class event.
