Canopus
Eh, I think the 1000 nT only applies to the color of the oval; when the RISK factor = 100 %, it always shows white, to my knowledge.
Anyway: Canopus is an array of magnetometers in Canada. Basically they measure the position of the auroral oval above Canada. Then they extrapolate it for the entire earth.
It is some indication of activity: when Canopus shows activity, you know that "somewhere on earth" a substorm probably is happening

Re: Was bedeutet das ?
http://www.irf.se/mag/rtplot.gif

Re: Canopus
eh, I think the AKM should get their heads together and find an answer to Canopus. I mean with so much potential (Mark, Ulrich, Sven and all the others who's name I don't remember now), it should be possible to make a good algorithm that at least resembles Canopus for Germany.
Starting with data from Norway?
But for the time being I think that AKM is the best local observer network on earth now. It is so nice to hear from other observers that went out into foggy conditions. After an hour or more it chills you to the bone. When you cannot sit on the floor of the forest, cold creeps in. I'm still wondering if we will get some aurora soon. Probably not, season is over ?
Greetings, JanL
