Wow, wundervoller CME...

Gruss
Peter

Re: ex-484 heisst jetzt 501 *LINK*
AR0501 (formerly known as AR0484 during the Halloween Epoch '03
festivities) produced an eruptive prominence (and, we assume, without
H-alpha observations, an M1.4 flare) at N01E90. GOES-12 observed the soft
X-ray LDE enhancement at 0903-0929-1002 UT. San Vito observed a metric Type
II burst at 0924 UT (180 MHz) to 0941 UT (25 MHz) with an estimated coronal
shock speed of 595 km/sec. Chris Balch, duty forecaster, observed a
preliminary partial halo CME with Vcme ~ 1100 km/sec off the E-limb. This
was later corroborated by Gareth Lawrence, SOHO/LASCO, who provided a speed
of 1085 km/sec at PA = 85 deg. We will assume that the metric shock speed
estimate is from a slower part of the expanding shock and that the leading
edge of the CME is, in fact, the shock above the flare site (needed for the
models) with Vs = 1100 km/sec and a piston-driving time, tau = 3 hr.
ACE/SWEPAM and SOHO/MTOF indicate a background solar wind speed, Vsw = 650
km/sec. The HAFv.2 model will consider both FF#521 and the present #522 in
appropriate temporal and spatial sequence.
HAF Vorhersage:
Western flank of shock will cross a nearly-perpendicular HCS (heliospheric current sheet) and arrrive on 16 November, 2003, 0400 UT. SSI = +0.10, and delta(momentum flux) = 2.2 nPa.
