Hi,
das Big Bear Solar-Observatorium hat am Abend folgende Warnung herausgegeben :-)

BBSO Solar Activity Warning 17-OCT-2001 20:02:40 UT

NOAA 9661 (N16W07) has been slowly developing additional magnetic complexity within the large delta configuration. The potential for 9661 producing a major flare has increased.

Grüße
Peter

This sounds like good news

We are still in the period that earth is very well positioned to receive CME's.
And since 9661 is near the center of the visible solar disk, a warning like this is treated as important to me.

I already have enough film in stock (7 rolls Portra 800), but wonder if I should get some more. In a most optimistic case 9661 could start firing small X flares or large M flares on a daily basis as soon as thursday or friday, resulting perhaps in three days of aurora every night. No moon and weather relative good, who knows: aurora from sunday till wednesday???

Anyway, I am getting prepared: getting all the work done now so that I can allow myself to take a day or two off when a show starts.
Also I will make some extra thermal heatings for my lenses, and get some new heavy reloadable batteries to power them. There was so much moisture in the air last weeks, and it is good not to worry about lenses condensing, especially when time-lapsing.

let's keep our fingers crossed and our gear ready !

greetings, JanL
