Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity
16 January - 11 February 2002

Solar activity is expected to be at moderate levels during most of
the period with isolated low-level M-class flares the rule. There
will also be a chance for isolated major flare activity during the
period.

The greater than 10 MeV proton event that began on 15 January is
expected to end on 16 or 17 January. There will be a chance for
another isolated proton flare during the period.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is
expected to be at normal to moderate levels during most of the
period. However, high flux levels will be possible during 08 - 10
February.

The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet to unsettled levels
during most of the period. However, active conditions are expected
during 06 - 08 February due to coronal hole effects.
