Hallo,
While out in the barn turning down a wood bowl I happened to stop and put on my sunglases and look near the horizon and I spotted a piece of circumhorizontal arc in a cirrus cloud fragment. I took two pictures of it and I am hoping they turned out nice.
Best,
Michael

Re: circumhotizontal arc
Hi Michael,
the circumhorizontal arc is only visible if the sun is 58° or more over the horizon. The declination of the sun is actually +12°.
So you point of observation has to be N44° or southwards. Where do you live?
Greetings, Jan

Re: circumhotizontal arc reply 2
Jan,
I live down in southern ohio which is good for me because I am able to observe the circumhorizontal arc when the sun gets very high last year I saw at least half a dozen circumhorizontal arcs but most were faint but two of which were bright and one observation I got photos of it along with a 22 degree halo with a sharp inner edge and bright colors.

Michael
