Hi
I am wondering whether sunspot 9655 that just appeared on the SE limb indeed has a reversed magnetic field and might grow bigger and produce flares?
It looks that way to me on the magnetogram.
9655 interesting?

..don´t think so...
Hi Jan !
The spot is still too close to the limb to really trust into the magnetograms.
And it is quit a tiny spot, that should not create much activity although it might be a reversed polarity spot.
At the moment it looks as if the active phase is over and we will not see major activity for at least 3 weeks.
And judging form the last sort of a cycle....maxima April 2000 - November 2000 - April 2001 - Oktober 2001...I think we will have to wait until next March or April for another outbreak of highly active sunspots and large geomagnetic activity.
But I hope to be corrected by the sun soon.
Regards
Ulrich

> Hi Ulrich!
OK thanks, I was already hoping you could answer this question.
But, we are still only one or two weeks after the date of best position of the earth to react on CME's. Also the active regions are getting more and more towards the solar equator. The circumstances are much better now than spring or fall 2000. I think we should be extra watchfull. Next week it is near new moon (Also best viewing time for zodiacal light!).
A well aimed C8 flare to M1 could still produce a major storm next week (I hope).
Is there any evidence of a six month solar subcycle????
greetings, JanL
